Its a method of rabbit control used throughout the UK.The lamps are used to find the rabbits, sometimes the rabbits will sit very still hoping you you dont see them but unbeknown to them there eyes will glow red when the lamp shines on them. The dogs often used are called lurchers but hunters will also use other sight hounds like whippets to catch the rabbits. Most importantly the dogs need to be trained to come back and to retrieve the rabbits and to be stock trained. The law on hunting with with dogs has changed alot however you can still lamp and use dogs to catch rabbits and rats but not fox, hares or deer. However lamping has been given a bad name due to poachers using the method to catch a meal or two without the permission from the landowner.
