(25 Oct 2018) Survivors were recovering in hospital on Thursday evening after flash floods in Jordan left 18 dead and 41 injured. The flooding, unleashed by heavy rains swept away a group of middle school students and teachers visiting hot springs near the Dead Sea, with the torrent carrying some for several kilometres, Jordanian officials said. Speaking outside Southern Shouneh hospital, Jordanian Health Minister Ghazi al-Zabin said all the fatalities were pronounced dead before they arrived at the hospital. He said most of the wounded were suffering minor injuries, and the more serious cases had been transferred to Al Bashir hospital in the capital, Amman. The victims were private school students and their adult chaperones who were caught off guard when sudden torrential rains unleashed a flood surge.
