To make a long story short, Buffy and Angel reconciled after NFA and got back together, eventually conceiving Kathryn in 2007 (entirely by accident). She begins her life with both her parents, but when she's about 5 Angel finds out that the prophecy about him killing Connor was never about Connor. Wesley translated the gender wrong. It actually reads 'the father will kill the daughter'. In an effort to protect her, he has all memory of him wiped from Kathryn's mind and leaves she and Buffy in order to give Kathryn the human life she deserves. Buffy is angry but eventually comes to agree that it is for the best, though it tears her up inside whenever she sees how like her father Kathryn is. Angel visits periodically, remaining unseen, to check up on her, and struggles with their separation. Kathryn knows something is missing but can't figure out what exactly that something is. At 15, she is called as a slayer and keeps it a secret from Buffy, not knowing that Buffy herself is a slayer. At 17, The Powers That Be eventually give Kathryn her memories back and she reunites with her parents, and Angel agrees to stay in town. But they also give her the knowledge that she IS genetically half-demon and has vampire blood flowing through her veins.
