Downwind swoops at Skydive Palatka, Florida, on my 59 sq ft Icarus Canopies NEOS. July 2009. I kicked the football on the second one. Yes, it's a very small canopy, but I'm small (5'5", 120lbs) and I've had a lot of training. A "swoop" is when a skydiver dives their canopy (parachute) at the ground to build up speed and as the canopy recovers it planes out horizontally as a swoop across the ground or water. A downwind swoop means that you're coming in with the wind at you're back, so you're going a lot faster and it's harder to shut the canopy down, or rather slow down and stop. My landings were filmed by Jeff Collie and he gave me permission to use the footage.
