Check them out: www.flipdots.com About a month ago I did an unboxing of these super cool electromechanical seven segment displays for Alfa Zeta and have been working in tandem on two parts to make an open source, cheap and easy to use module that can be controlled by any arduino or microprocessor via a simple serial interface and command set. So in this video I assemble and demo my first prototype board and firmware. I've verified the communication layer of the software as fully working but there are other problems. As it turns out I made a very stupid mistake in the circuit while trying to be clever and cut down on parts and I/O. As explained, because of this I'll need to refine the circuitry and modify the firmware. So I've learned from my mistake and am working on designing a version 2.0 pcb and tweaking the firmware to support the new schematic as well. The next video will chronicle the next version (and hopefully last, working iteration).
