IMPORTANT: VIEWING INSTRUCTIONS FOR VR & SPATIAL AUDIO

1. A normal sized image should fill your view. If you see a large distorted image, STOP! Your VR player is not working properly. Best viewed in a VR headset or Google Cardboard, but you can also view on your phone or desktop. Some platforms will not decode VR properly -- like Roku.

2. Move the camera! The image wraps 360° around you! There is more to it than just what you see in front of you! If you’re watching from a flat screen, click and drag the mouse or click the control circle to move the image. On a cell phone, slide your finger to look around.

3. This is mastered in 3D spatial audio. When you move the camera, the audio should also move. If not, the spatial audio decoder is not working on your platform. You'll still hear it in Stereo, but it will lose the impact of spatial audio. Wear headphones for proper spatial audio effect. It will be less dramatic through speakers. The audio changes when you move the camera.

4. At times, the VR will pan left or right towards action. Don’t fight it.

Thanks for watching this early VR technology.

VR is new technology that relies upon variables at least 100 times more complex than traditional television. Our goal was to experiment with the art form, break the rules people say can't be broken, and create something fun and worth watching more than once.

Normally, an 11-minutes short would take less than one week to edit. Hungry Trees took well over a thousand hours to edit. Ah, the joys of being a trailblazer. :)

As this is low/no-budget, you'll find plenty of work-in-progress "Easter Eggs" if you watch the piece more than once.

Some new techniques invented in this VR experimental piece:

a) A FIRST! Panning the camera to help viewers focus on the story.

b) A FIRST! Story and characters in VR! The VAST majority of VR is ambient video or passive. Other VR creators have said it's impossible in VR. I say, nothing is impossible in entertainment.

c) A FIRST! Multi-cam VR. Shooting with multiple cameras is traditional in television -- but most VR creators don't use it. We didn't have the budget to erase all of the in-scene cameras, and next time we will hide them better but this is a LEARNING CURVE!

d) A FIRST! VR Editing. Most VR is not edited. Although the cuts are slower and the new technique of editing VR is being invented, this video is unique as one of the first ever edited VR.
