South Fremont wrestlers help teammate after home burns down

ST. ANTHONY— VO: 20-year-old Monica Nunez was full of emotions after seeing her childhood home burned down Sunday morning.

SOT: “I was currently sleeping at the time, I heard something explode and I live just right across. That’s when I saw my mother’s house go up in flames,” Nunez said. 

VO: Nunez lives close to her parents, Luis and Lorena Bueno, who  live on N 2100 E. South Fremont Fire District officials say the Bueno’s home was fully engulfed in flames around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. 

VO: A Fremont County Deputy saw the flames from a distance while out on patrol. 

SOT: “You could see it from clear into St. Anthony,” Amanda Nunez said.

VO: Thankfully no one was in the home that night as Nunez’s brother Michael was staying with a family member after a wrestling tournament.  

SOT: “Thank God he’d stayed home with me,” Amanda Nunez said.
 
VO: Some 30 wrestlers along with coaches, wrestler's parents and neighbors came together to clean up what remained of the home. 

SOT: “It’s kind of cool to see that we all can come together and help each other when we have trials,” 18-year-old wrestler, Matt Stewart said. 

VO: Wrestling coaches Jed Clark, and Franklyn Tavarez have been instrumental in organizing cleanup efforts. 

SOT: “We have quite a few of our wrestling parents who are donating time and bringing different equipment in to help out,” Franklyn Tavarez said. “Right now we’re just trying to make the process go as smooth as possible for our wrestler.” 

VO: The family is grateful for all the help they've received and are continuing to accept any help as they hope to raise enough money for another trailer. 

“Even if it’s a used trailer we need to get her a home because she’ll have places to stay but it won’t be home for her so we’re wanting it all ready by the time she gets back,” Amanda Nunez said.
