Eureka finalist 2016 - Associate Professor Darren Curnoe, UNSW.

Presented annually by the Australian Museum, the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes reward excellence in the fields of research & innovation, leadership, science communication and school science.

Darren says:
"I am interested in most aspects of human evolution, but it is a vast and multidisciplinary subject. Therefore, I have tended to focus my research on reconstructing and understanding the Pleistocene, or last 2.6 million years, of the hominin (human) fossil record with a focus on the genus Homo. I have worked mostly on the fossil records of Australia, South Africa, Kenya and China: ranging from early Homo through to modern humans (modern H. sapiens). I undertake field research most years, co-directing research surveying/excavating palaeontological and archaeological sites in South Africa, Kenya or China."
