Today, Enter The 36 Chamber is revered as one of Hip Hop's most classic albums. But when it dropped 25 years ago it was also considered one of the most poorly produced HIp Hop albums of it's time. RZA's production technique was far from perfect. His loops weren't tight, and the engineering sounded like the album was produced on a 4 track in someone's basement. Roomer has it the album was never mastered. Vocally, songs like "Protect Ya Neck", which had no chorus and featured 9 of the most grimyest sounding duddes in RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Ol' Dirty Bastard, made you question whether a group rappers from the slums of Shaolin could ever make an impact outside of New York City's 5 boroughs. A quarter century later, "W" is the most iconic sympol in Hip Hop. Last night, 2 Queens dudes trekked it all the way out to the island of Staten to pay hommage to the people of a forgotten borough that gave us an unforgettable Hip Hop group. *Honorable mention to Sara Zavala, @thestarting5_podcase, @jubei208 and everyone else who played a roll making last night a reality.
