NOTE: Jan Garber’s is one of the longest-running dance orchestras in American music market – continuously performing and recording from 1920 until the 1970s. Today I present one of the earlier recordings, from Jan Garber’s best period in the Roaring Twenties. 

Born in  1897 in Morristown, New Jersey, USA, Jan Garber attended the University of North Carolina. Briefly played violin with the Philadelphia Symphony and later formed his first band in New York in 1918. His next outfit was co-led by pianist Milton Davis in the early 1920's, playing a 'semi-hot style' of jazz. This was known as the Garber-Davis Orchestra. His best “hot” dance recordings were cut as Jan Garber and His Orchestra in the mid-late 1920s. His 'sweet' band came about in the 1930's, when Garber took over the Freddie Large orchestra in Cleveland. (Popular "sweet" ballroom orchestra was opposed to a "swing" band). Jan Garber’s band recorded primarily for Victor and American Decca records. By the time he retired in the early 1970's, he had become very wealthy, owning substantial real estate holdings in Louisiana.
