In 2004, police investigated a murder in Virginia Beach where Lois Schmidt and her 7-year-old son Jonathan were fatally shot and found inside a burning home.  The case remained unsolved until 2018, when two men were arrested for the crime. Investigators said Christopher Schmidt, Lois' husband, hired Richard Stoner to kill her and Jonathan.
