Google celebrates renowned social worker and activist Baba Amte's 104th birth anniversary with a Doodle. Murlidhar Devidas Amte or Baba Amte was born on 26th Dec, 1914 in Maharashtra. Baba Amte dedicated his whole life to the cause of leprosy and in 1949 he established Anandwan, a rehabilitation center for leprosy patients. A believer in the unity of the country, Baba Amte launched the first Knit India March in 1985 and to inspire unity in India, he walked from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in 1985 at the age of 72. Three years later, Baba Amte again travelled over 1800 miles from Assam to Gujarat. Baba Amte was awarded Padma Shri Award in 1971, United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights in 1988 and Gandhi Peace Prize in 1999.
