Part of preparations for 1.8 include getting the passive mob system set up with a working chicken sorting mechanism (and soon after that, a pig sorter) because food will be much more important in 1.8. You'll need to keep the "hunger bar" full so that you will heal over time since there will be no more 'instant healing'. Also I take care of a few other odds & ends.
