Royal welcome for China's president in Madrid

(27 Nov 2018) Chinese President Xi Jinping was welcomed to Spain on Tuesday by King Felipe VI in Madrid's Zarzuela Palace at the start of an official visit to the country. They shook hands before holding talks to begin an intensive day of engagements. Queen Letizia of Spain and the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan joined their husbands for a short photo-call ahead of a welcome dinner. An official welcoming ceremony for Xi will be held on Wednesday morning at the Pardo Palace. The Chinese leader will also be given the keys to the city of Madrid, visit the Spanish Senate and hold talks with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Spain is the first stop of Xi's ongoing Europe and Latin America tour, which will also take him to Argentina, Panama and Portugal.
