Warframe - Howl of the Kubrow somehow completed with no enemy waves triggered

I was looking for a good spot to defend when my kubrow wandered off the radar. I decided to just trigger the first wave of enemies, but nothing happened. Then the wild kubrow got mad at me and I ran to the extraction point for no real reason. I expected to be torn apart, but I was surprised with a "Mission Complete" message and the collar in my inventory.
