(7 Nov 2018) Jeff Sessions left the US Justice Department on Wednesday after resigning as the country's chief law enforcement officer at President Donald Trump's request. Sessions announced his plan to resign as Attorney General in a letter to the White House on Wednesday. Trump announced in a tweet that Sessions' chief of staff Matt Whitaker would become the new acting attorney general. Whitaker is expected to oversee the special counsel's investigation into potential coordination between the president's Republican campaign and Russia now that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has resigned.
