In this part of the series, I take the panels we just glued up, and I bring them down to their final dimensions on the length, width, and thickness. Now, admittedly, because I used 2x4s for this, the thickness is about 5/8", not quite 3/4" like the plans call for. Nevertheless, they are thick enough for the purposes of this build. In short, what I do is scrape off any glue and then go across the grain, diagonally, with a thick-ish cut on the #5 Stanley-Bailey plane to bring everything to the same level. Then, I check for flatness with a straight edge and winding sticks. I do this for all boards, no matter how small. When I have one face nice and flat, I make an edge flat and square to that face, and those two edges become the reference sides/faces, which I ALWAYS marks with a light "R". Going off of those faces, I mark the thickness and then the width. Lastly, I use the references edges against the main surface and fence of my shooting board to bring one end into square. Then, I mark the length, cut, and true it on the shooting board. Next video, I'll be cutting mortise and tenons for the carcass.
