(20 Oct 2018) Afghan voters on Saturday cast their ballot in parliamentary elections that are being protected by tens of thousands of security forces. Within hours of the polling stations opening, several minor incidences of violence had occurred in Kabul, as well as several provinces. Two officers were wounded outside a polling station in a girls' school in the capital as they tried to defuse an explosive device. Two civilians sustained minor injuries in the blast, police said. The Taliban and an even more radical Islamic State group affiliate have vowed to disrupt Saturday's parliamentary elections. In the run-up to the elections, two candidates were killed, and polling in Kandahar was delayed for a week after a rogue guard gunned down the powerful provincial police chief.
