There are more than 300,000 immigrants living in the U.S. under a decades-long program who are now at risk of deportation. Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, has long allowed certain people who have fled violence or environmental disasters in their countries of origin to legally stay here. Over the past year, however, the Trump administration has started revoking the protections for people from six of those countries: Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Nepal, Sudan and El Salvador. More than 6,000 TPS recipients live in Massachusetts from El Salvador alone.

Earlier this month, a federal judge put the administration's actions on hold – but if they're allowed to resume, TPS recipients will face the risk of deportation.

Last week, a group of 11 children whose parents have TPS traveled to Rome to take their case to Pope Francis, asking him to intervene. Jim Braude was joined by Kevin Palma and Lisbeth Landaverde, who were among the group, and Kevin's father, Jose – who came to the U.S. from El Salvador in 1998 and is a TPS recipient.
