Today I spent a few hours railfanning in Homestead. Because we left only a day before Christmas Eve, rather than two days ahead of time, I didn't have a chance to railfan before Christmas Eve, when it's busier. But I still made off with five trains today, which is more than I expected to get today, so I can't complain (I mean I could, but I won't, lol). Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy!

Train #1: Shortly after arriving, the crossing went off for an eastbound CSX intermodal train. I didn't have time to get the tripod ready, so I just had to make do with this handheld video.

Train #2: An eastbound NS coal train passes by Homestead. This train appears to be empty, so I'd presume it's going back to the mine at Shire Oaks or somewhere. Would have been cool if the Dash 8 led, but I don't consider this to be a fail trail.

Train #3: A westbound CSX mixed freight goes by with another AC4400CW pair, once again with a Boxcar Logo unit leading a YN2 engine. It had a good mix of cars, including a BN grain hopper.

Train #4: A westbound NS intermodal train smoothly passes Homestead. Its destination couldn't be too far away, as part of the holiday shutdown says that on Christmas Eve, all NS trains must deliver their goods by 3:00, otherwise they won't be accepted. I find it funny how an SD70ACe was trailing, because the lead Dash 9 sounds like it has a K5LA/K5LLA hybrid horn. It also has a burnt logo.

Train #5: This was my last train of the afternoon. A westbound CSX empty oil train heads by with a sole ES44 unit leading. It was a long train, could even be longer than Lenny's inspection train in dajara521's "Gentle Giant". The lead locomotive was CSX's first ES44AH in the 3000 number series, and it has a K5LA, which would mislead me if I didn't see the engine before the horn started blaring. The engineer gave me an extra toot of the horn too. This was the last train, as nothing else came for a while and that I had to go back to the hotel to shower, change clothes, and get ready to go to my grandparents' house.
