Pathribal Fake Encounter: Why Army Impunity Needs to be Questioned

18 Years after the Indian Army carried out the Pathribal fake encounter killing five men, no legal action has been taken against the responsible personnel. CBI investigations clearly established the guilt of the Army, but the legal procedures in place in “disturbed” areas of India allow the armed forces to evade prosecution. When even in such blatant cases of misuse of power the responsible cannot be brought to book, then perhaps it is time we reconsider our laws.
