A 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook up forces families and troops in Cyprus early today. It happened just before 06:00 this morning. While earthquakes are common on the island, they are not usually powerful enough to be felt. The epicentre of the earthquake appears to have been four kilometres south of Kolossi, and 12km southwest of Limassol meaning the Akrotiri peninsula was very close to the heart of it. But the effects were also strongly felt along the coast in Episkopi and Paramali with people describing the feeling of waking up in their beds, which were shaking and hearing their houses creaking. An aftershock with a magnitude of 3.4 then hit about five minutes later. For more reports like this visit our website www.bfbs.com/news
