Climate Change agreement: Negotiations continue in Bonn

United Nations, New York, 8 June 2009 - A second week of negotiations on a new international climate change agreement have begun in Bonn, Germany.

This week delegates from around the world will table detailed proposals they believe should be included in a new climate change agreement. Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) says the conference is now "getting down to the nitty gritty of the negotiations".

It is hoped the proposals discussed will inform the high level debate and deliberations that will take place in Copenhagen in December.

Also in Bonn today, key UN and non-UN aid agencies have called on countries from around the world to take into account the humanitarian impacts of climate change when tabling their proposals for a new climate deal.
