http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/service/o/otolaryngology/cchat/default/ Each year in the United States, three in 1,000 children are diagnosed with permanent hearing loss. It is the most common congenital birth defect. Early detection means children can get hearing aids as babies and develop speech and language along with their peers. But hearing aids are expensive. They cost $3,000 to $5,000 for each ear. Ohio does not require health insurance plans to include hearing aid reimbursement. But help is available. The Cincinnati Children's Hearing Aid Trust (CCHAT) provides the first sent of hearing aids at no charge for babies and toddlers who are Ohio residents. It is entirely funded by generous donations from foundations and individuals.
