It wasn't that they didn't want to open up, it was just the natural fears that come with not knowing what to expect. All kinds of questions arose. Can they really be trusted? Are they really as committed as they say they are? Will they run when it gets rough? You want to take a chance but you don't know if they're only coming with half. And before you know it, you find yourself pushing them away. Because you can't allow yourself to believe somebody will get close enough to see your flaws and still want to stay. You can't imagine being enough or getting it right because you're so used to being the one who gets left. It's a rough reality, but one you have to be able to live with. We say things like: show me I can trust you and you'll never have to question my loyalty to you. But in order for you to show me, I'd have to be vulnerable enough to let you and I won't do that because Im not sure what you'd do with that power. There are no guarantees in love, at least not the way we'd want them to be. You get what you work for and you pray you're blessed with somebody worth working with. At the end of the day, that's all you can ask for. Well, for now at least.
