In part two of the NCS biography of Portland Oregon crime boss Al Winter, we look into his Vegas years, and Al's role as a pioneer in the gambling industry. We talked with former president of the Castaways and Silver Slipper casinos, Bill Friedman. Bill met us at the Tropicana in Sin City, and walking through the casino with a former casino manager was an interesting experience. Bill had his eye on details I never would have noticed had he not pointed them out, and it was obvious that running a casino is in his blood. We met to discuss gangland legends, Vincent Alo, Bugsy Siegel and Frank Costello, but being that Bill is an expert on Las Vegas gambling history, I asked if he had ever heard of Al Winter, expecting to get the same blank stare I always get when I mention Al's name.
