Iowa is divided into seven main landform regions. Each landform has a unique geologic history that that shapes the way it looks. The Des Moines Lobe landform region in north central Iowa was formed by a fast moving glacier in Iowa, approximately 14,000 years ago. It is characterized by ridges formed by rocks and sediment deposited by a glacier, called moraines.
