(20 Oct 2018) There were multiple attacks on polling stations during Saturday's parliamentary elections in Afghanistan, after both the local Islamic State affiliate and the Taliban warned people against voting. The most serious was in a northern Kabul neighbourhood where a suicide bomber arrived just as the polling was about to close and blew himself up, killing three people and wounding another 20. Police and interior ministry officials say 15 people were killed and wounded in that attack. Among the dead were several police officers, an interior ministry spokesman said. Voting will continue on Sunday in those areas where polling stations opened after 1pm local time. In the run-up to the elections, two candidates were killed, and polling in Kandahar was delayed for a week after a rogue guard gunned down the powerful provincial police chief.
