Fantasy Football Minute: Are Mike Williams and Antonio Callaway’s bright futures starting now?

A step below the likes of Tyler Boyd and Calvin Ridley on fantasy football’s waiver wire for Week 4 are two more intriguing, young talents who look to be making good on their potential. Mike Williams of the Los Angeles Chargers and Antonio Callaway of the Cleveland Browns are both offering reasons to believe they can make an impact in fantasy leagues.

Williams could be the better bet with an elite pedigree — he was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft — and big-time tools that could make him a touchdown machine starting right now. The second-year phenom has touchdowns in back-to-back weeks, including a pair of scores in the Chargers’ Week 3 loss to the Rams.

The first of those came on a 42-yard bomb in the end zone by Philip Rivers. The second came on a 4th-and-2 in the third quarter where Williams had to fight his way into the end zone. He’s big and agile enough and has the catch radius and body control to score in a variety of ways.

Callaway is a lesser commodity for now, but a big day could still be within his reach. A rookie fourth-round pick who moved into the starting lineup when the Browns traded Josh Gordon to New England, Callaway has breakaway speed he showed back in Week 2 on a long touchdown catch from Tyrod Taylor. 

The going wasn’t as good in Week 3, but Callaway was knocking on the door of a big stat line before settling for four catches (on a team-high 10 targets) for 20 yards. The move from Taylor to rookie Baker Mayfield also offers encouragement that Callaway could start seeing higher-quality targets.
