Bill Davies is a Distinguished Professor at Lancaster University whose research provides a unique view of ways in which environmental stresses impact plant growth. His discoveries have led to radical changes in irrigation practice which contribute to sustainable increase of agriculture. In June 2011, Bill Davies was awarded a CBE for services to Science in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. Bill Davies has a general interest in interventions that might enhance global food security, while his research group focuses on understanding how crop plants cope with adverse environmental conditions. "Food Insecurity: we're all part of the problem but we can all work towards a solution" In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
