Republican Sen. Marco Rubio said the real issue driving such “anger and passion” around Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court is not Kavanaugh himself nor partisan politics, but what he considers the unjust treatment of sexual assault victims. “Far too often women who come forward with allegations of harassment, abuse or assault are ignored, dismissed or even blamed,” Rubio said. The United States is still reckoning with this fact, Rubio said. But to allow Kavanaugh’s confirmation to become a “proxy fight” for the issue would be an injustice.
