United Nations, 13 February 2009 - Daily Briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. The President of the Human Rights Council addressed the media in Geneva today. The Human Rights Council is wrapping up the 4th session of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group whose goal is to review and improve the human rights situation in every country. Currently 64 of the 192 UN Member States have been examined. He reminded reporters that the overall goal of the Universal Periodic Review is to improve the human rights situation in every country, address human rights violations wherever they occur, and shed light in the darkest corners of the globe.
