SOUTH AMHERST, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio man who authorities say held two firefighters hostage has been taken into custody. Eight firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a wooded area behind a home Wednesday evening in South Amherst, about 35 miles west of Cleveland. When firefighters arrived, authorities say a man who lives in the home became agitated and took two firefighters hostage with a rifle. The hostage situation ended peacefully about two hours later, and the man was taken into custody. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office says he kept saying he wasn't going to hurt anyone. They say he told them he wanted a beer and his psychiatric medication. The Ohio State Highway Patrol closed part of the nearby Ohio Turnpike in both directions as a precaution. It was later reopened.
