Louis Maurice de Lussanet de la Sablonière Soerabaja (Indonesia), 3 June 1937 - Kuranda/Cairns (Australia), 4 November 2014 ...................................................... Louis’ eerste ervaringen in de jazzmuziek waren met pianist en schoolgenoot Hein van der Gaag. Het slagwerk spelen leerde hij zichzelf aan. Vanaf 1956 maakte hij deel uit van Eric Krans’ Dixieland Pipers, waarmee hij verschillende grammofoonplaten maakte. Ook speelde hij bij het Peter Schilperoort Kwintet en vervolgens bij het orkest van trompettist Wybe Buma. Na het onverwachte afscheid van drummer Martien Beenen deed Peter Schilperoort een beroep op Louis. Al na enkele maanden volgde een tournee van ongeveer drie maanden naar Zuid-Amerika. De periode waarin Louis de Lussanet het slagwerk bespeelde was misschien wel de meest succelvolle tijd van de Dutch Swing College Band. Tournees naar Duitsland, Engeland/Schotland, Denemarken, Maleisië, Afrika en Australië werden meermaals gemaakt. Ook een belangrijk deel van de plaatopnamen werd in die tijd gemaakt. De Lussanet toonde zich een excellente slagwerker. In 1965 kwam er vrij plotseling einde aan zijn dienstverband. Louis ging op muzikaal terrein andere werkzaamheden doen, zoals het orkest van Rogier van Otterloo. Inmiddels had hij ook lessen gevolgd aan het Conservatorium hetgeen zijn mogelijkheden verruimden. Begin tachtiger jaren besloot hij te emigreren, eerst naar Nieuw-Zeeland, later naar Australië. Door geheel andere werkzaamheden kwam zo een eind aan de muziekcarrière. ....................................................
