Huey Lewis once sang "It's hip to be square", but realizing hipsters aren't known for loving Sports or Working For A Living, the team behind Pera decided to check their Midtown roots at the door and wil' out downtown-style. With a menu overhauled by the peripatetic Ryan Skeen, the multifaceted space includes a bar area lit by a "forest" of caged Edison bulbs, a massive garden beset with fire pits and ice sculptures, and even roof access for private parties, as taking in The View in public is embarrassing.

The menu of Med-Turkish delights is sprinkled with Midtown faves, with fresh bites including starters like grilled prawns drizzled with cocoa bean/parsnip ragout & bottarga, a tabouleh & chilled crab salad, and a cabbage & chickpea Turkish Taco, who would make just as much sense to people watching The League as American Taco. There're also new mains like pistachio-crusted snapper, mint-and-lime grilled quail, braised short ribs w/ smoked eggplant, and a massive roast leg of lamb for four served with blistered peppers & baked whipped potatoes, though usually being whipped keeps you from getting totally baked. What's your secret, potatoes?!

To round it out, look for sheep's milk ricotta dumplings w/ Jonah crab, crispy lamb belly w/ goat cheese & grapefruit, and even fried rabbit legs on the spankin' brunch menu, in a Perfect World the ideal meal to catch up on the News.
