Why we started the channel, The good, the bad and the ugly of having the channel. How much money we made for one million views on youtube and with all of this info maybe you will decide you want to make a channel

Why we started the channel
We started because we wanted a Hobby we could do together 
But then when we decided to move into the RV we thought Friends and family keep up with what we were doing

What was the goal/expectation
We thought if we could reach 100 subscribers that would be great
We reached 13 fairly quickly within a month or so 7 of them were friends and family though

I remember being very excited though when someone other than a friend or family clicked subscribe and I also remember being disappointed that between both of us only 7 friends and family wanted to keep up with us lol.


The good

The friends we have made from having the channel has been amazing.
We also learn a lot from people who watch the channel, especially in the beginning. We were able to pick up a lot of good tips from viewers about RVing and we found it very helpful to have that kind of support.

Trying out new products and receiving free stuff 
Two times a month a company will email us asking if we would like to try their product and hope we share it with our audience we ignore most of them because they are things we would not use, but every once in a while it’s something we were going to purchase and we jump on them, like our SureCall system. A lot of times these companies are just looking for feedback from us and what we would change and then of course some would like us to share them with you guys too. It probably works out to be very cheap advertising for them.

Another good thing is, I like being creative and on some of our videos I have really take the time to make a fun travel video with lots of cut scenes and different angles and such

The bad

I believe you need a thick skin sometimes to have a channel for the 
criticism, We are obviously not professional videographers or story tellers. So when people say a video stinks because it’s out of focus or the volume is terrible or anything critical like that it is sometimes tough not to take that to heart. When we make a video we can obviously tell when the sound is off in sections or out of focus and we have thought about re shooting those parts of video, but have always felt it would take away from the truthfulness of the video, we would of course be saying the same exact thing we did the first time, but I feel like it would feel like we are acting and we are obviously not actors either or models Quick funny story about being models later. 

And of course then there is the criticism of how we are doing things wrong in life, either our life choices  life style or traveling style. You just need to be comfortable with yourself and how you live if you are going to go on and share it with the world I guess.

The Ugly

The ugly can get real ugly on youtube we have been very lucky in this department though, we have only had a handful of racist commits, or people just straight up cursing at us because they do not agree something that we are doing. I can’t repeat any of these things here on the channel and I if I see them I unfortunately need to delete them form the channel, I don’t want to stop anyone from voicing their opinion, if it’s written in a hateful or a vicious attack then I do delete it. I have deleted hateful comment not only against us, but ones directed towards our viewers that may share their positive comment. 

Again, I think we are very fortunate to have such a positive community of friends here on our channel considering YouTube comments for some reason certainly bring out the worst in people. 

Our channel community is 95% positive and I like to think that is by design on our part. From the very start of the channel we said we would never put and negative content on the channel, we felt there is plenty of negativity everywhere else in the world and our channel titles and content would always be positive. I think our most hateful word that we will use is “dislike” and I really believe that is why we have so many positive comment over the small amount of negative ones. I believe negativity invites more negativity. 

Should you make a channel

I think if you have been thinking of creating a channel go ahead and do so, it can be a lot of fun and you really can meet the nicest people. You can always stop the channel if it does not go well. Youtube makes it very easy to post a video, we still have our test video where I recorded 30 seconds of us at peaks of otter in Virginia from my phone then went through the process of posting it, just to see how it to do it. I know some people start channels to make money, but I think without Patreon it is very difficult to make an income on youtube 
Unless you become one of the top 100,000 or 200,000 channels on youtube. There are 50 million active channels.
