(1 Dec 2018) The acting principal at Chugiak High School in Alaska has surveyed the damage following an earthquake Friday.
Allison Susel says ceiling tiles came down, books were thrown off shelves in the library and there was water damage, but there were no injuries to students or staff at the suburban Anchorage school.
"Yes. The quake was extremely large felt throughout the entire school. We obviously have damage," Susel said. "We're really thankful to report no students or staff were harmed in the earthquake and that we were able to get all of our students and staff home safely."
Back-to-back earthquakes measuring 7.0 and 5.7 shattered highways and rocked buildings Friday in Anchorage and the surrounding area, sending people running into the streets and briefly triggering a tsunami warning for islands and coastal areas south of the city.
