Decisions once in the hands of a few are now in the hands of everyone, said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. "Today nobody can refuse a poor man when he asks for a job. Nobody can refuse a poor man when he asks for his right to food. Nobody can stop an Indian when he goes and asks a question to his government," Rahul Gandhi said.

UPA's achievements have to be measured in terms of the landmark legislations introduced in the last ten years, and their long term benefits in reforming governance and benefiting India's poorer sections, farmers, women, children -- Right to Food, Right to Information, Land Acquisition Act, Lokpal Bill.

"We brought the Land Acquisition Act...howsoever poor a man may be, if his land is taken he would now have to be compensated with four times the market price of his land (in rural areas)," Rahul Gandhi said.

The Congress party has led from the front in India's fight against hunger by bringing the Food Security Act. Under this Act food heavily subsidized food will be provided to two third of India, with special focus on nutritional support to women and children.
