We are saddened to report the passing of 18-Gram my award-winning singer, Aretha Franklin. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and fans during this difficult time.

Publicist Gwendolyn Quinn confirmed her death to the Associated Press this morning, stating that the cause of death was pancreatic cancer, The Washington Post reports.

Aretha Franklin was a world-renowned American soul singer during the 'rock era,' with classic songs that transcend time while tugging at the heart strings. Deeply-rooted in gospel, Franklin, who grew up singing in her father's church, would catapult into chart-topping territory with her debut album “I’ve Never Loved a Man the Way That I Love You.” She leaves behind a legacy of hits like "Respect" (1967), "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (1967), "Chain of Fools" (1968), "Think" (1968), "I Say A Little Prayer" (1968) and many more. The soulful singer, often draped in a floor-length mink, was soul music's royalty at it's best—hence why she was officially donned the "Queen of Soul" by D.J. Pervis Spann in 1967.

In addition to her Grammys, Aretha has won a host of awards including the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1987), the Presidential Medal of Honor (2005), the youngest to receive the Kennedy Center Honors award (1994), No. 1 in Rolling Stones' all-time greatest singers list (2008)—just to name a few. The Detroit-native was also honored with a street sign entitled "Aretha Franklin Way" in front of the Detroit City Music Hall in 2017.

Her music and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of many for generations to come. Long live Lady Soul.
