Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, has responded to the latest correspondence from the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union. The OWTU wrote to the Prime Minister on Tuesday, saying it stands ready to begin deep and meaningful engagement on its proposal to save the Petrotrin Refinery from closure. In his response later on Tuesday, Dr. Rowley told the OWTU if it's able and willing to present and commit to the rigours of an acceptable business proposal, then the Government will treat it with the dignity and respect it deserves. He said Government would be prepared to give the workers some facilitation, so long as that is within reasonable business transactional arrangements. Dr. Rowley said if, however, much more attractive proposals become available, then it must be expected that the interest of the taxpayer will take priority.
