Get a regular email updating me on concerts in the Bay Area and a couple of dates with Steely Dan caught my eye. They are playing 5 dates at the Masonic Auditorium (where I ran follow spot on a play a couple of weeks ago) on top of Nob Hill. It is a nice venue with 3,000 seats. I thought about how nice it must be for superstars like Becker and Fagan to schedule a nice little series of intimate concerts in the nicest part of one of the greatest cities in the world. Nice work if you can get it. The format really interested me as well. Two of the nights are "internet requests", which sounds like such an up to the second enmeshment of culture and technology, but the other dates are two of "Steely Dan playing Aja" and "Steely Dan playing Royal Scam" All right, while that format seems like (what a surprise with these two guys) they are taking themselves a little too seriously, BUT.. I do like the way it restores something that has been eviscerated by iTunes... the importance of the album format!
