CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT
Iranian-backed Houthis have agreed to a five-day humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al Jubeir claimed the ceasefire would give Houthis a chance to show “they care about their people and Yemenis”. More than 13 hundred people have been killed since the start of Saudi-led coalition operations in the country. 


100K DISPLACED
Clashes between rebels and government troops have intensified in Unity State, causing 100 thousand to flee their homes. President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit  and former Vice President of South Sudan Riek Machar signed a ceasefire deal in January last year. However, violence has continued in parts of the country. The UN estimates 10,000 people have been killed and another 1.5 million displaced since the conflict began in 2013.

ANSAR DEATH TOLL
The Egyptian military said its crackdown on the Ansar Bait al Maqdis militant group has resulted in 725 deaths and nearly 2,000 arrests over the past six months. Egypt began a statewide crackdown on ISIS-affiliated Ansar in September. They focused mainly on Sinai after the group was held responsible for an attack on a checkpoint that killed over 30 soldiers and security personnel. It began carrying out attacks targeting the Egyptian military in 2013.


ARMED GROUP KILLS OFFICERS
Macedonia Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska has confirmed five police officers were killed and more than 30 were injured in  clashes with an unidentified armed group. The armed group is believed to have entered the city of Kumanovo from Kosovo with the intent to attack local police stations. Three weeks ago, 40 ethnic Albanians from Kosovo demanded the creation of an Albanian state in Macedonia. They had partially gained control of a police station located on the northern border of Macedonia.
