Every year thousands of people across London phone up a student-run listening service in order to talk about the problems and issues that they are facing, or simply to just have someone to talk to. On the other end of the line they receive an impartial, non-judgemental and empathetic ear for as long as they want throughout the night -- a service that will sometimes make all the difference. Open between 6pm-8am during term time, Nightline is a confidential listening support and information service for, and ran by, students in London. The nightly volunteers are all current students, which means that callers speak to someone who understands the stresses and pressures of university life. Dr Ann Conlon, Chair of Trustees of London Nightline, explains the work of this unusual and little-known service. The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/at-the-end-of-the-line-students-helping-students Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. http://www.gresham.ac.uk
