(20 Nov 2018) DICAPRIO, DE NIRO COME OUT TO HONOR MARTIN SCORSESE FOR MUSEUM OF MODERN ART TRIBUTE In one of the more memorable moments on the black carpet, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio flanked Martin Scorsese. The Oscar-winning director was honored at the Museum of Modern Art's 11th annual Film Benefit Monday night (19 NOV18) in New York. De Niro and DiCaprio have teamed up with Scorsese a total of 15 times, and both are currently working with him again. Other guests at the star-studded gala included Jonah Hill, Harvey Keitel, Tony Bennett, and Spike Lee. The Brooklyn-born director remembered the first time he saw a Scorsese film. "My mother was the one that introduced me to Scorsese. My mother loved films. My father hated movies. So, I was my mother's movie date. And so, the first Scorsese film I saw was 'Mean Streets.' My mother took me to see it," Lee said. Michael K. Williams also worked with Scorsese, most notably as Chalky White in the HBO drama series, "Boardwalk Empire." Williams spoke of the magical touch Scorsese has on set. "He lets everybody be. You know, I'm quite sure he's aware that his reputation exceeds himself. And he does away with all of that stuff. You get on the set with him, you get one-on-one with him. And it's a - it's a very level playing field. And he's very gracious and he's humble. That's a - it's a character trait that not everybody possesses," Williams said. Past Film Benefit honorees have included Pedro Almodóvar, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Hanks, and Julianne Moore.
