In many so-called “primitive cultures” there was no separation between healing, recreation, and creative expression. To strengthen the bonds of the community and the feeling of oneness, rituals that normally include rhythmic music, dance, chants, and in most cases, psychoactive substances, facilitate the induction of states of trance on their participants. This results, most of the time, as an effective source of healing as well as a mechanism that brings people together.

This panel, composed of psychologists from the Kosmicare team, will discuss the problematic, hermetic separation of ‘recreational’ (loaded with stigma) and ‘therapeutic’ settings of use of psychoactive substances, and discuss these issues in terms of field work in different festivals and their ‘psychedelic support’ service work.
