Written by John Conolly. He is either of English or Irish decent, regardless it is Celtic in origin. This is a modern song (1960's I believe) but has gained a lot of popularity and is sometimes thought of as a "traditional ballad". Fiddlers Green is a place where it is said that if a man walks with an oar over his shoulder until someone asks him what it is, he has found paradise. Other people say it is a place that Pirates thought up, knowing they could never acheive "Christian heaven" and simply made up a religion and paradisiacal place of their own. I learned this song from the Dubliners.
