San Diego, Calif. (CBS 8) - The San Diego City Council voted 6-2 in favor of keeping up a rope barrier year-round at the Children's Pool in La Jolla. The decision was made late Monday night after hundreds of people showed up to the meeting to voice their opinions.

The "Swimmers versus Seals" battle has lasted for decades at the Children's Pool. Advocates for the seals say taking down the rope barrier puts the seals in danger.

The proposal includes hiring a full-time park ranger for the cove and it was recently endorsed by a council committee. It still requires California Coastal Commission permits. The City Attorney's Office was also instructed to draft an ordinance prohibiting beach access during seal-pupping season.
