Tracy Sharpley Whiting, professor of African American and diaspora studies, professor of french and director of the African American and Diaspora Studies Program, kicked off the 2007-2008 Thinking Out of the Lunch Box series at the Nashville Public Library Sept. 5. Whiting's discussion was entitled, "From Imus to Industry: How Mass Media, Public Culture and Payola Profit from Women." Thinking Out of the Lunch Box is a series of lunchtime talks with a philosophical flavor hosted by David Wood, Centennial Professor of Psychology and sponsored by the Vanderbilt Office of Community, Neighborhood and Government Relations in partnership with the Nashville Public Library.
