Hussain Salem Mohammed Almerfedi has been held at the US naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, since 2003. He is from Yemen and was arrested in Iran in December 2001 and handed over to US authorities in Afghanistan. He has never been charged with any offence or brought to trial by the US authorities. In 2010, a federal judge in the USA ordered his release, ruling that his detention was illegal. However, the Court of Appeals overturned this ruling and the US Supreme Court has refused to hear his case. Join Amnesty International's call for Almerfedi and other Guantánamo detainees to be immediately released unless they are to be charged and fairly tried in federal court.
