These new models are more ergonomic, deliver higher durability and also achieve faster drilling speed. Hitachi used some similar features from their larger hammer line. The brass bushings are replaced with ball bearings, air flow through the tool and hammer mechanism is increased resulting in faster drilling and less fatigue to the end user. The DH26PF 1” SDS Plus Rotary Hammer has a 7.5 Amp motor that produces 2.4 ft-lbs of impact energy at 1,100 RPM and 4,300 IPM. The major upgrades that you will feel are all in the grips. All places that you will grab this tool, including the adjustable side handle, are covered in a rubber over mold. The D handle has been redesigned featuring a larger trigger that will fit two fingers. There is also a lock on button allowing you to drill through longer jobs without holding the trigger. If your bit gets stuck, there is a switch to reverse the bit out of the hole. The mode selector has been optimized for use with gloves. It is very solid and changes modes easily. The clutch is perfect as it will not impede your drilling, but it will engage before the rotary hammer binds causing you harm. Clutches on these rotary hammers can be tough because of the wide variety of materials the drills are used on. Some clutches kick in to early and others seem like they don't work at all. Hitachi's clutch system worked great, even when drilling with the max size bits recommended. Being Comfortable The first thing we noticed when we un-boxed the new Hitachi rotary hammer was how light it was. Moving it around and holding it, you get the feeling it will be comfortable and easy to handle while drilling. The rubber over mold is amazing. While it does pick up a bit more dust when in use, the grips are solid and leave you feeling a bit more secure while drilling. When we hit our first re-bar, the rubber grips allowed the unit to stay in our hand and the clutch kicked in to save any injury. While it is never fun to drill around re-bar, the systems a design of this rotary hammer made it more comfortable. The speed of drilling was amazing. In many cases we watch the video and look at it like the film was played faster than it was recorded. That is not the case and all video is in real time. The rotary hammer is fast at drilling and chipping. Impressive is all we could come up with for a drill of this size and weight. Many contractors will be impressed with the speed and comfort, but over time, the durability and less repair is what will give this rotary hammer a long lasting reputation.
